addressing current issues of culture:
digital transformation and new forms of funding
This meeting, scheduled May 10th in Venice, at 17-00 is a part of CultTech Program at Architecture Biennale opening week, it will take place in the context of the next edition of the New European Bauhaus symposium.

Several players, among the most influential, have already confirmed their participation:
  • ERSTE Foundation,
  • Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation,
  • the Mercedes Benz Foundation,
  • the Onassis Foundation.
The debates will draw upon the experience of other key players present at the symposium:
leading cultural institutions -
  • Palais de Tokyo,
  • Ars Electronica,
  • Klangforum Wien,
  • Salzburg Festival,
  • etc.
world-class artists -
  • Asmik Grigorian - soprano,
  • Teodor Currentzis – conductor,
  • Sasha Waltz - choreographer and dancer,
  • etc.

and representatives from European public institutions.
The public sector’s disengagement from arts and culture is accelerating, particularly in Europe, driven by the breathtaking geopolitical developments of our times. The exponential impact of technology brings additional challenges to the cultural world, not least with AI unleashed with very few guardrails in the creative sector.

Thus we find ourselves at the outset of a new era, in which private actors (foundations, corporate institutions, wealthy donors) are called upon to step up their role and responsibility in supporting culture, an essential element of our societies.

These private players, ‘impact investors in culture’, are facing a number of essential questions, such as:
  • How will the (partial) withdrawal of the public sector impact the cultural landscape ?
  • Will some sectors be more affected than others (e.g. contemporary culture vs. heritage, etc.) ?
  • What challenges, and what opportunities, does this entail for private investors in culture ?
  • In this new situation, what resources can private investors in culture bring to bear ?
  • What new initiatives are required of them ?
  • Is there a need for more coordination, for lobbying according to a specific agenda, or other joint actions ?

Answering these questions and initiating appropriate action has become an urgent matter. To that end, CultTech Association is organizing a think-tank meeting of private investors in culture.
